Six Voices

Six Voices is a three channel video created for display at Eastern State Penitentiary Museum in Philadelphia, PA. Eastern State Penitentiary displayed considerable vision and boldness by mounting the nation’s first exhibition on mass incarceration in a major museum, titled "Prisons Today: Questions in the Age of Mass Incarceration."  The full exhibition won the prestigious Excellence in Exhibitions awards from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), considered the highest award for an American museum exhibition.

For this project, we worked closely with six different individuals with widely different experiences of the criminal justice system. Our approach forthrightly seeks to humanize the stories of all those who have criminal justice involvement, from juveniles to those currently in prison to corrections officials. In this way, we continue our ongoing emphasis on demonstrating that all those touched by our criminal justice system are human beings with their own hopes, dreams, and aspirations, not just statistics.

This film was created in collaboration with Michelle Repiso, an artist located in New York City.
